Looking for a small animal associate to fill a key position in a mixed animal practice. The position would be centered around our busy small animal practice that is a growing segment of the overall business. We see primarily cats and dogs with the occasional rabbit or pocket pet as well. There is a growing demand for someone whom might also be interested in exotics as well as avian practice. Our practice is located adjacent to I-95 in central Maine, about halfway between Portland and Bangor, each about 1 hours drive. Our well equipped 4,400 square foot small animal hospital was built in 2005 and the core members of the staff have been here for years and years, making us like family. We have complete in-house laboratory, separate digital radiology and surgery suites, 3 outpatient exam rooms, separate isolation, feline and canine wards, including indoor dog runs, and a spacious treatment area with dedicated dental procedure area. We are full service small animal hospital, handling routine outpatient appointments to complex surgical cases, but aren't ashamed to send clients to referral centers when appropriate. We currently have 4 technicians on staff to assist with patient care as well as a dedicated reception crew to handle the front office duties. There typically would be another doctor working in the hospital at the same time to help with the case load and consult with if needed.
While we are specifically seeking a small animal practitioner, one that might have interest in doing mixed practice are certainly welcome to apply. Our large animal business is 100% ambulatory, using full sized PortaVet equipped trucks. The majority of our large animal practice is working with dairy farms. Our dairy client's farms range in size from 15 to about 1300 head. We also see a variety of small /hobby farms with beef, goats and sheep. Our large animal service covers an approximate 35 mile radius to the clinic which serves as home base for the large animal portion of the business.
The current doctors on staff share duties in both the small and large animal portions of the business, with a rotating schedule. We also all share coverage of night and weekend emergency duties with an on-call technician available for small animal cases. Veterinarians are paid straight salary, plus a percentage of emergency calls covered. Health insurance, SIMPLE IRA, paid continuing education, paid vacation, AVMA and Maine VMA dues, and more are all included in the total compensation package.
The Oakland-Waterville area is a local service center for the surrounding communities. We are only a few miles from 3 colleges, 2 hospitals, many local and national business and several major industrial operations which provide an excellent client base. Oakland is about an hours drive to the beautiful Maine coast, the mountains (great skiing) and two metropolitan areas (Portland and Bangor) and about 15 minutes north of Augusta, the state capitol. We are adjacent to numerous lakes, which provide excellent recreation, and attract vacationers from all across the country. Kennebec Veterinary Services, Inc. is a mixed animal practice servicing the Central Maine area for almost 90 years. Our case load is approximately 70% small animal and 30% large animal ambulatory, of which most is dairy cow work but also includes small ruminants. We provide 24 hour a day service for emergencies in both large and small animals owned by our clients. Our small animal practice is housed in a newer (2005) purpose-built building with 3 exam rooms, large treatment and surgery areas as well as dedicated isolation, canine and feline wards.
