The Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department is offering an exciting opportunity for a veterinarian at our progressive municipal shelter in Albuquerque NM. We are looking for an enthusiastic veterinarian to join our already existing team of 4 veterinarians. Our two shelters boast high-quality high-volume spay/neuter surgery, public outreach spay/neuter, as well as excellent diagnositic and treatment capabilities for shelter animals, including digital x-ray and in-house IDEXX blood work machines. If you have experience with high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter techniques (Humane Alliance model) or an interest in learning about them, and enjoy working with dedicated shelter professionals, this job just might be for you! We have a team of 15 technicians, including RVTs, who have been with our shelter for many years. Here you will find a group of dedicated and passionate animal lovers with a common goal to improve care and welfare for animals in our city and beyond.
The ideal candidate will have experience in spay and neuter surgery, strong diagnostic skills, the ability to consult in small animal cases, conduct health evaluations, and to prescribe medication as needed. An interest in other soft tissue and orthopedic surgery is desirable but not required as we perform a variety of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries in house as well. We are looking for applicants who have the ability to be team players and handle a variety of cases and diagnostic challenges.

Job Requirements: Candidates must possess a valid DVM degree and be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the State of New Mexico. Experience in a shelter setting is preferred but not required. USDA Accreditation is preferred but not required.
