The Dumb Friends League in Denver, Colorado is looking for a veterinarian with a passion for teaching to join our team! With a supportive Veterinary Services staff and modern equipment, we are committed to providing the highest quality, compassionate, and ethical care to pets in our community.
In this unique position you will have the opportunity to affect positive change by both mentoring and training future veterinarians and providing veterinary care to underserved populations. In partnership with the Colorado State University (CSU) College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS), the league is offering a hands-on clinical externship to fourth year doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) students with a strong focus on dentistry and primary care medicine.
Externs will rotate through two locations- Solutions Veterinary Hospital and the Quebec Street Shelter. Solutions Veterinary Hospital exists to provide low-cost, donor subsidized veterinary services to those in our community that would not otherwise be able to afford care. The hospital has five guiding principles: prevent suffering, alleviate suffering, maximize our impact, enhance the dignity of our clients, and collaborate with the veterinary community. At this location, externs will gain experience working with both clients and pets. The Dumb Friends League, with an annual intake of over 20,000 animals, is one of the largest providers of shelter medical care in the country. At the Quebec street shelter, externs will provide medical and surgical care to shelter pets, getting them ready for adoption.
The clinical instructor will provide instruction to, and evaluation of, veterinary externs while providing excellent care to shelter and owned pets and their people.
