The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national nonprofit association established in 1863 that represents more than 99,500 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services, is seeking an Accounts Receivable (AR) Accountant to join our Finance and Business Services team, located at our Headquarters office in Schaumburg, Illinois – a northwest suburb of Chicago. The AVMA’s mission is to lead the profession by advocating for its members and advancing the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health.

Under the general direction of the AR Supervisor, the AR Accountant is responsible for processing accounts receivable, including invoice generation, processing payments for invoiced and non-invoiced items, and collections. This position will also assist with recording Political Action Committee (PAC) donations; and the creation and maintenance of applicable reports and ledgers, while ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

• Associates degree in business with an emphasis in accounting, or accounts receivable certification is required; Bachelor’s degree in accounting is preferred
• Minimum 1-3 years of accounts receivable experience is required, association experience is preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting practices and principles, with a focus on accounts receivable
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to interact and provide exceptional customer service to all levels of AVMA staff, volunteer leadership and members
• Strong computer skills, with knowledge of commonly used computer applications; along with Great Plains software experience, is required
• Excellent time-management skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities
• Highly organized, with good attention to detail
• Knowledge of PCI compliance
• Flexibility to work overtime and/or outside normal business hours, as needed
